Unlike austenitic stainless steel, 430F (a ferritic class) offers better resistance to stress-related corrosion cracking. It also has higher thermal conductivity, which makes it more suitable for applications like heat exchangers. While both 430 and 430F stainless steel rods have similar compositions, 430F contains more sulfur. This added sulfur greatly improves its machinability.

However, this sulfur-rich alloy has lower formability compared to 430SS, but it still has enough ductility to prevent cracking under pressure or stress. The high chromium content in 430F flat bars provides good resistance to corrosion, especially from pitting. A notable feature of ferritic steels, including 430F threaded bars, is their magnetic properties, unlike austenitic steels, which are non-magnetic. This magnetism can be useful in specific applications. Like most ferritic steels, 430F stainless steel cannot be hardened by heat treatment or strengthened through cold working.
